“It’s just preschool right?” As a Director of an Early Childhood Center, I can’t tell you how much a hate it when people say that. Preschool is most children’s first exposure to school. This is the critical moment in time when a child either develops a love of learning or a hate for it. How do we make a child love school? We teach them through play! They think school is awesome because they get to play all day but in reality, they are learning so much!
What do they learn? They learn how to be independent, to explore, to inquire and to wonder. They learn how to come up with new ideas and test those ideas out. Yes, we teach them how to count and know the alphabet but much more than that we teach them how to love to learn.
Early Childhood sets a child up for the rest of their lives. Children who attend Preschool programs overall do much better when they enter school for Kindergarten. Simply put, they got a head start. This is why some places send hundreds of thousands of tax payer’s dollars to provide early childhood to the children in their community. In NYC, children starting at the age of three can attend school for free. Why? Because Mayor DeBlasio understands how important Preschool is.
What do I do if I can’t afford preschool and my state doesn’t provide it? Digital Preschool is an online preschool program. It is designed to be done at home by you the parent, giving the child as much of the same experiences as they would in a classroom. This is a new affordable option available September 2020.
